About Us
Lighthouse Veterinary Services was born out of a deep seated passion for providing superior veterinary hospice care and dignified end-of-life services for dogs and cats in the comfort of their loving homes. We respect and support the profound connection between humans and their animal companions, recognizing the anguish inherent in witnessing the decline of a cherished pet’s health and grappling with difficult end-of-life decisions. The symbolism of a lighthouse was selected to embody the essence of our endeavors, representing resilience, solace, and safe passage at the end of a long and arduous voyage. Our dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Nancy Mayer, will partner with you offering compassionate guidance and empathy as you navigate this journey, and will administer individualized care to your beloved pet with kindness and dignity.

In-Home Pet
Euthanasia
Making decisions regarding end-of-life care for your animal companion is very difficult, and often complicated. When the time has come to consider euthanasia, we are here to help guide and support you through the process. We believe in the benefits of end-of-life care being provided at home where your pet is most relaxed, surroundings and scents most familiar, and where family can gather to pay tribute to the wonderful life your pet has lived. As part of our services, we provide a keepsake clay pawprint for you to cherish, and additionally, will assist you in arranging aftercare services tailored to your preferences with the utmost care and compassion.

Pet Hospice
Veterinary hospice care parallels human hospice care, focusing on providing comfort and support for pets in the final stages of terminal illness. Our goal is to maintain your pet’s comfort by managing pain, controlling symptoms, and ensuring hydration and appetite. We offer compassionate support from the moment curative treatment is no longer pursued until the pet’s passing, whether through in-home euthanasia or natural death. Our veterinarian works closely with you to develop a personalized plan for symptom management and pain control, while also offering support for your family as you prepare for the loss of your beloved pet

Quality of Life Consultations
Assessing a pet’s quality of life (QOL) takes multiple factors into account, helps determine whether a pet is happy, in pain, or perhaps suffering, and may help guide treatment decisions. During this in-home visit, our veterinarian will evaluate your beloved pet, review and discuss any medical history and prior treatments, and address your concerns. QOL assessment tools will be provided empowering you to gauge your pets overall comfort and needs moving forward. Together we will create a plan defining the things that matter most to you as your pet nears end of life. Our focus is on the needs and comfort of the pet as well as those of pet parents.
