Rudolph Cooney: April 2013 – May 2025

Rudy, the doodle from Butte, America, was a dog like no other. A bundle of white curls, jampacked with lightening energy and a nose for adventure, mischief and fun, there was never a dull moment with Rudy. From the moment we met him on the farm on which he was born in Butte, to his last breath yesterday, Rudy did things his way, which often got him into trouble, but he lived his puppy life to the absolute fullest and brought us much joy in the process. Some of Rudy’s favorite things in the world were his big brother Reece, walks/hiking, camping, boating, trekking through the deep snow, chasing squirrels, escaping the yard and taking himself on walks around the neighborhood, sleeping in his igloo house, no matter the weather and endless treats. For 12 years, Rudy was an integral piece of our puzzle and as of yesterday, there is now a giant missing piece and it stings. Although he had been slowing down recently, not walking or hiking as much, he was able to do his thing, as he always would, all the way through his final hours here. The day preceding his passing included leading his dog brother Blackbeard through an open gate to explore the alley, sneaking treats and lounging in the sun, sprawled in the green, spring grass – a pretty normal day for Rudy. When we woke up Saturday morning, Rudy was telling us it was time for him to go. We will never know what exactly it was, but thankfully we were able to find an available vet, who was able to accommodate us, come to our house and provide her services in a really beautiful and kind way. Rudy took his final breaths, in his yard, on his favorite bed, with the sun shining and birds singing, surrounded by his people and animals. Cannot say enough good things about Dr. Nancy with @LighthouseVeterinaryServices. She was absolutely incredible in our time of loss and sadness. Rudy, we will miss you, but are thankful for so many great years and epic adventures. I know you are playing chase with Reece and Gus, causing trouble and having way too much fun. You brought so much joy to our family and it is gonna take time for us to get used to this emptiness that we feel. Love you, Rudy Tudy. We miss you so much, but wouldn’t have traded our time with you for anything.
